• Ability to play to click track/backing tracks/recordings
• Ability to play along to me on the piano or guitar
• How to work out out a beat/rhythm/drum part by ear
• How to count and how to read drum notation/lead sheets
• How to write drum notation
• How to improvise/ad lib and compose drum parts
• The use of tempo and dynamics in helping convey the mood and character of music
• How to tune a drum kit/set up a drum kit for ease of play

• Grades 1-8 London College of Music or Trinity Rockschool syllabus (see exam results)
• GCSE performance solos and ensemble pieces
